COPPA requires that we inform parents and legal guardians about how we collect, use, and disclose personal information from children under 13 years of age; and that we obtain the consent of parents and guardians in order for children under 13 years of age to use certain features of our website(s). Below we explain how we do that for these children. Also, when we use the term "parent" below, we mean to include legal guardians.
What types of personal information do we collect about our guests?
The only personal information we obtain about you is information voluntarily provided by you through our website. This means that it is possible to visit and navigate through our site without giving us personal information; however, to receive updates about new videos, activities, and contests posted to the site, you must register. When you register, we require that you provide us with a limited amount of personal information such as your name and/or e-mail address.
Additionally, when guests come to our site, we may passively collect certain non-personally identifiable computer information, such as the type of computer operating system (e.g., Windows XP or Mac OS), the user’s IP Address, the Web browser (e.g., Netscape, Internet Explorer) being used, and information regarding the Internet service provider.
What types of personal information do we collect about children?
We do not condition your child’s participation in online activities on the collection of any personal information from your child.
Children may e-mail NetSmartz characters via the website. In order to do this, children should provide their parents’ or guardians’ e-mail address. The address will only be used once, and only to respond to a direct request from the child. The e-mail address will be used for no other purpose.
The opportunity to win prizes and/or be featured in the “NetSmartzKids Hall of Fame” is available through a portion of the site entitled “Club UYN.” Children who participate in contests may be asked to provide a mailing address and a parent’s e-mail address in order to receive their prizes. Mailing addresses will not be used to send any other materials unless requested. Children who are featured in the Hall of Fame will be identified by their first name and last initial only.
What choices do you have about the collection, use, and sharing of your personal information?
Our intention is to keep NetSmartzKids.org free from product advertising. We will never sell or provide any personally identifying information of our guests to a third-party. Likewise, we do not allow third-party companies to solicit our users.
You have the right to request that we refrain from collecting your personal information. You may also choose to unsubscribe from NetSmartz bulletins and communications at any time, either by e-mailing NetSmartz_contact@ncmec.org or following the unsubscribe directions in the communications.
What kinds of security measures do we take to safeguard your personal information?
The security and confidentiality of your information is extremely important to us. As such, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial safeguards to help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security, and otherwise correctly use the information we collect online. In addition, NetSmartzKids.org is self contained, and does not link to any other sites. Please be aware though that, despite our best efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable.
